Chinese Seafood in Jeddah: Lobster, Scallops and Calamari
Chinese seafood in Jeddah: every lobster, scallop, calamari, prawn and fish dish on the Toki menu, what each one is, and how to order seafood for a table.
. 6 min read

Chinese seafood is far more than a plate of fried shrimp. Chinese kitchens steam fish with ginger, bake scallops in the shell with glass noodles, fry squid until it is light and crisp, and toss prawns in a hot wok with salt and dried chili. In a city on the Red Sea, that range has an easy audience.
Toki, a Chinese restaurant in Al Khalidiyah, Jeddah, selected in the MICHELIN Guide Saudi Arabia, puts seafood in every section of its menu, from dim sum to the mains. This guide covers each seafood dish on the current menu, grouped by type, with a closer look at the lobster, scallops and calamari.
Is Toki a seafood restaurant?
Toki is a Chinese restaurant rather than a dedicated seafood restaurant, but seafood runs through the whole menu. Most of its sections have at least one dish built around lobster, scallops, squid, prawns or fish.
Here is the full list, grouped by type:
- Lobster: Kaffir Lobster Dumpling, Lobster Salad, Honey Black Pepper Lobster.
- Scallops: Baked Scallops, and Seafood Green Fried Rice, which also has shrimp.
- Squid: Crispy Calamari.
- Prawns and shrimp: Crystal Shrimp, Jiang Pao Prawns, Sesame Prawn Toast, Mango Prawn, Salt & Pepper Tiger Prawns, Prawns and Sesame Salad, Chili Tiger Prawn.
- Fish: Yusheng Salmon, Cantonese Style Seabass, Cantonese Steamed Najel, Sesame Glazed Salmon.
- With shrimp or prawns as one part: Szechuan Sui Mai, Szechuan Hot and Sour Soup, Rice Noodles.
Prawns have their own page, the guide to Chinese shrimp and prawn dishes, and fish has the guide to Cantonese steamed fish. The rest of this page looks at lobster, scallops and calamari.
What lobster dishes does Toki serve?
Toki serves lobster three ways: as a dim sum dumpling, as a salad and as a main course. The Kaffir Lobster Dumpling and the Lobster Salad open the meal, and the Honey Black Pepper Lobster sits in the From the sea section.
Kaffir Lobster Dumpling: lobster and prawn with kaffir lime and spinach, in a bright green wrapper. Kaffir lime is the fragrant citrus best known from Thai cooking. The dumpling is new to the menu, and Toki’s Instagram first introduced it in June 2026.

Lobster Salad: lobster with pecan nuts, mixed greens and a citrus salad. The citrus keeps it fresh and the pecans add crunch, which makes it a light way to start a seafood meal.

Honey Black Pepper Lobster: lobster with mushroom, celery and carrot in a honey black pepper sauce. Black pepper sauce is a favourite in Cantonese and Hong Kong cooking, and honey softens its bite. It is a dish to share at a celebration.
None of the three lists chilli among its allergens, so lobster is the safe choice for anyone at the table who avoids heat. The Lobster Salad does contain tree nuts.
What are Toki’s Baked Scallops?
Toki’s Baked Scallops are scallops baked with glass noodles in a butter, garlic and chili sauce. Scallops with garlic and glass noodles is a much-loved Cantonese pairing, and the fine noodles soak up the sauce.
Glass noodles are usually made from mung bean starch, and they turn clear as they cook, which is where the name comes from. Toki’s Instagram shows the scallops served in their shells, each one on a nest of noodles under shredded spring onion and chili. The chili adds some warmth, and the dish suits garlic lovers who want a starter that is rich rather than fried.
Scallops appear once more on the menu, in the Seafood Green Fried Rice with shrimp and olive leaf. It is new to the menu and works either as the rice for the table or as a seafood dish in its own right.
What is crispy calamari?
Crispy calamari is squid, cut and fried until light and crisp. Calamari is the Italian word for squid, and crispy fried squid is a favourite starter across Chinese kitchens, especially Cantonese ones.
Toki’s Crispy Calamari comes with spring onions, red chili and sesame oil, which adds a nutty aroma. Toki’s Instagram shows it piled high in a glazed blue bowl with rings of fresh red chili, green leaves and a small bowl of dipping sauce on the side.

It is an easy plate to pass around, and one of Toki’s own posts suggests ordering an extra for the table.
Which seafood dishes at Toki are not spicy?
Seven seafood dishes list no chilli among their allergens: Kaffir Lobster Dumpling, Lobster Salad, Honey Black Pepper Lobster, Crystal Shrimp, Sesame Prawn Toast, Mango Prawn and Sesame Glazed Salmon.
Baked Scallops, Crispy Calamari and both tiger prawn dishes carry chili. So do the two Cantonese fish dishes, the Cantonese Style Seabass and the Cantonese Steamed Najel. Ask your server if you avoid chilli completely.
What should you know about seafood allergies at Toki?
Almost every seafood dish at Toki lists crustaceans, the allergen group that covers lobster, prawns and shrimp. Squid and scallops are molluscs, a separate group, so mention a shellfish allergy of either kind before you order.
A few other allergens to note: the Lobster Salad and the Jiang Pao Prawns contain tree nuts, and the Salt & Pepper Tiger Prawns list peanuts. The full list for every dish is on the Toki menu page.
How should you order seafood for a table?
Build the meal in rounds and mix the cooking styles: something steamed, something fried, something baked or glazed. For two people, one dim sum, one seafood starter, one dish from the sea and a rice is plenty.
- For two: Kaffir Lobster Dumpling, Baked Scallops, Cantonese Steamed Najel and Seafood Green Fried Rice.
- For four: add Crispy Calamari and Salt & Pepper Tiger Prawns to start, and swap the najel for the whole Cantonese Style Seabass.
- For a celebration: open with the Lobster Salad and put the Honey Black Pepper Lobster at the centre of the table.

Seafood also sits well next to meat. A steamed fish and a plate of Crispy Szechuan Angus Beef on the same table balance each other. For a full walk through the menu, read what to order at Toki, and for the dumplings, read the complete guide to dim sum in Jeddah.
